Process Design with Atmospheric and Low Pressure Gas Plasma



Abstract: Gas plasma is a powerful tool allowing for molecular engineering of materials to impart unique surface properties, without affecting the bulk properties. Considerations in creating a plasma include power delivery, gas or vapor composition, or unique chamber configuration and design. Plasma systems exist that enable both facile batch processing or in-line treatments.

The technology is a critical design tool for many industries such as aerospace and defense, life sciences, electronics, semi-conductor, and automotive. Use of the technology allows for increase in throughput at a reduced cost.

Mr. Tim Smith is the Vice President, Engineering and Operations, for Plasmatreat North America and is located in the Ancaster Ontario facility. Tim is responsible for, and manages Operations, Engineering, and Technical activities for Plasmatreat in North America. An Electrical Engineer, Tim has extensive experience in product design, automation, and implementation of atmospheric processes and is a key technical resource.

Mrs. Mikki Larner is the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Plasma Technology Systems (PTS), a Plasmatreat company, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has a developed technical understanding of surface modification manufacturing practices for the life science, aerospace, and electronics industries. Activities include active memberships in the Surfaces in Biomaterials Foundation, American Chemical Society (ACS) and Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE). She holds board positions with the Society of Plastics Engineers Golden Gate Chapter and the Golden Gate Polymer Forum.
