When a bonding process not keeps it´s promise the cause is supposed to be the adhesive. However, in the meantime it has become clear that the main fault is not the material in industrial bonds, but the particular application and errors in the surface pretreatment. The announced DIN 2304 is going to reference on these issues.
The key concept of ISO 9001 is the mastery of processes through a comprehensive quality management. Since bonding is supposed to be a "special process" due to no non-destructive testing technology DIN 2304 contributes on the one hand to the image of bonding processes itself and on the other hand optimizes the confidence that customers and clients have in bonding processes. DIN 2304 is industry-independent and focuses among others on the quality of adhesion processes and on the quality of surfaces to be utilized.
In recent years it has been shown that Openair® plasma pretreatment leads to an optimal adhesion in subsequent bonding processes of different materials while simultaneously ensuring a clear quality assurance. At this year's tradeshow "Bondexpo 2015" in Stuttgart, Germany it clearly showed that DIN 2304 found it´s way to the forefront. The expectations of the users are positive.
