Pretreatment: Activation of surfaces individually and specific to the application

Plasmatreat’s plasma technology is suitable for activating surface materials such as plastics, metals, fabrics or even glass.

Wherever surfaces are to be coated, painted or adhesively bonded, selective prior activation of the starting materials is imperative to ensure superior adhesion.

Short film: Activating surfaces with plasma

The determination of surface tension using test inks shows that:

When surface tension is low no wetting is possible; following activation by Plasmatreat’s Openair® plasma the whole surface can be wetted.

What is the effect of activating surfaces with Plasmatreat’s plasma processes?

Surface treatment with Plasmatreat’s plasma systems is particularly effective, for example, in the activation of plastic surfaces because plastics consist of long polymer chains. These non-polar surfaces are difficult to bond and coat. However, as a result of the structural modification created by Plasmatreat’s plasma treatment systems these surfaces may now become more effectively coated and bonded.

Advantages of activation with plasma
  • High process speed and reliability
  • Great process latitude due to the homogeneous plasma beam
  • Low-cost, environmentally friendly pretreatment
  • Pretreatment without corona effect; the material does not come into contact with high voltages
